Donovan Clingan's Fantasy Basketball Outlook for 2025

Early signs are encouraging

Donovan Clingan enters the 2025-26 season as Portland's undisputed starting center after an impressive preseason. The 21-year-old dominated the glass with multiple double-doubles, including a monstrous 20-rebound performance against the Jazz. His preseason averages of 13 points, 12 rebounds, and solid block numbers in 25-27 minutes per game signal he's ready for expanded responsibilities.

At his current price of $4,854,000, Clingan represents excellent value given his locked-in starting role. With Deandre Ayton now in Los Angeles, the path is clear for Clingan to secure 28-32 minutes nightly. If he maintains his preseason production across a full season, he could easily outperform his mid-tier salary. His rebounding alone provides a strong fantasy floor.

However, fantasy managers should recognize his limitations for total point production. Clingan's free throw shooting remains problematic—he shot just 33% from the line during preseason. His three-point attempts were inefficient, and his offensive game revolves almost entirely around putbacks and dunks. This caps his ceiling despite strong defensive contributions.

The upside play here is banking on volume. If Clingan averages 30+ minutes as the starter, his raw counting stats—particularly rebounds and blocks—could accumulate enough fantasy points to justify his price. Monitor his early-season minutes closely. If he's consistently playing 28+ minutes, he's a strong hold at $4.8 million.
